What do you remember most about the Lagunitas School District?
I remember the community and caring feeling that everyone on campus gave the students. I remember how there were people from so many different backgrounds and learning environments on the one campus, but how friendly everyone was no matter what program you were in or where you lived, etc. Even now, going back and visiting everyone says hi and remembers you–they make you feel special.
How did the Lagunitas School District influence the person you have become and your interests and goals?
The small, tight community which the Lagunitas School District fostered really influenced my decisions in finding similar communities in every aspect of my life–which is why I chose to be part of the ROCK and SEA-DISC programs in high school, and to go to a small liberal arts school for college, where I knew I could find that same type of community. It also came to be a major reason for my love of basketball, where I found caring communities.
The great outdoors programs in the Lagunitas School District also greatly influenced who I have become, as the outdoors are really important to me to this day. Programs such as Wilderness Way, and just being able to go take hikes as a class whenever we wanted, and being so close and connected to the outdoors in general in the Valley really stuck with me.
What activities are you or were you involved with in the San Geronimo Valley and surrounding communities? Volunteer activities, school activities, sports, jobs, internships etc.
I played CYO basketball for St. Cecilia’s and was on the middle school team; played flag football and ran cross country in middle school; played violin and was part of the school band; did an event planning internship through the community center at the San Geronimo Golf Course; and to this day I regularly play in basketball open gyms at the school.
If you are a high school graduate what have you been up to since high school, where are you now, what are your plans? If at college where are you and what are you studying?
I graduated from Drake this past June and am now at Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota, where I am playing basketball. I am undecided about what I am going to study but I am interested in the social sciences and/or a pre-health track for physical therapy and sports medicine.
